The top scorer of the 2. Bundesliga, Robert Glatzel, is set to remain with Hamburger SV despite recent missed opportunities in achieving Bundesliga promotion. The 30-year-old striker, who netted 22 goals last season, will stay with HSV as per his contract, which runs until 2027. This was officially announced by the club on Saturday.

Glatzel's Commitment to HSV

As the new season approaches, Glatzel expressed his unwavering commitment to the club and its passionate fans.

"HSV, the fans, and Hamburg mean a great deal to me, which I've mentioned multiple times. Despite that, I needed to contemplate my future and discuss it with the club's officials after the season. The discussions were intensive, respectful, and positive," said Glatzel.

Key Conversations with Baumgart and Kuntz

Head coach Steffen Baumgart played a pivotal role in convincing Glatzel to stay. Baumgart, along with the newly appointed sporting director Stefan Kuntz, assured Glatzel of his significance to the team's future plans. Their approach proved fruitful.

"Bobby is a crucial player for our team, and we are delighted with his decision to stay. We've had good, intensive, and open discussions where we outlined our strategic plans and his vital role in them," Kuntz remarked.

Interest from Other Teams

Rumors had surfaced about potential interest from clubs like Werder Bremen, Union Berlin, and VfB Stuttgart. However, these teams couldn't offer Glatzel a guaranteed starting position, unlike HSV, where he remains a fan favorite and an integral part of the squad.

Aiming for Bundesliga Glory

Glatzel is eager to embark on the upcoming season and contribute to HSV's goals.

"I can't wait for the new season. I want to help us achieve our objectives together," he stated enthusiastically.

It’s clear that both the club and its supporters are looking forward to what Glatzel will bring in his fourth season with the Rothosen. His commitment continues to boost the morale and aspirations of HSV as they aim for ultimate success.
