After two long years, Christen Press finally stepped back onto the training field, embodying resilience and determination.
The long road to recovery
The U.S. forward suffered a devastating ACL injury on June 12, 2022, against Racing Louisville, putting her World Cup dreams in jeopardy. 730 days later, Press rejoined her Angel City teammates, marking a significant milestone in her arduous journey back to full fitness.
Overcoming obstacles
Press experienced multiple surgeries and setbacks, but her spirit remained unbroken.
"The first thing I need to do is train, but then I'll be able to participate in matches, score goals, have an exceptional season, and eventually play for the national team again," Press said confidently.
Her words reflect an unyielding belief in herself, despite the lengthy and painful rehabilitation process.
A new chapter in Los Angeles
For Press, returning to Angel City means more than just playing soccer—it's about coming home. Growing up in LA, she finds comfort and support in her surroundings.
"Playing for this team has been the first time in my life where I feel comfortable. I bought a house, I have a home here, and I feel permanent," the forward shared.
Future ambitions
At 35, Press shows no signs of slowing down. Missing the World Cup has only fueled her determination to succeed, with her sights now set on the Olympics.
"With all the trauma of missing the World Cup, watching it, I thought, I can't go through this with the Olympics," Press remarked, emphasizing the emotional and mental impact of her journey.
Despite the challenges, she continues to dream and push boundaries.
Conclusion
Christen Press's return to training is more than a personal victory—it's an inspiration to athletes worldwide facing similar hurdles. Her story of perseverance and hope reminds us that with determination and support, we can overcome any obstacle. The soccer world eagerly awaits her full comeback, ready to enjoy the brilliance she brings to the field.
