Oihan Sancet, the young midfielder from Athletic Bilbao, is successfully overcoming a femoral bicep injury that prevented him from joining Luis de la Fuente’s squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.

A Crucial Absence for Spain

After a stellar performance in the Copa del Rey final against Mallorca and scoring against Villarreal in the subsequent La Liga match, Sancet faced a major setback. His persistent femoral bicep issue resurfaced during the clash against Atlético Madrid, pushing him to the sidelines during the critical stages of the season. This muscle group, crucial for explosive plays and finishing, demands immense care and recovery time.

Multiphase Recovery Approach

Combining rest, specific treatments, and a well-planned summer break, Sancet's injury has healed, ensuring his participation in Athletic's preseason training starting July 8 at the Lezama facilities.

"The femoral bicep is a tricky muscle. Overexerting it can lead to setbacks, especially for players heavily relying on quick sprints and powerful strikes," commented a medical team spokesperson.

Eyes on Paris Olympics

If Spanish national team coach Santi Denia finds Sancet physically fit by then, he might even witness the budding talent in the Paris Olympics. Notably, last summer, Sancet's battle against pubalgia without surgery turned out a success with the help of top-notch specialists.

Teammates in Recovery

Meanwhile, Yuri Berchiche and Nico Serrano, two other Athletic players, are also adjusting their summer plans due to injuries. Berchiche is recovering from a right shoulder dislocation, while Serrano, who underwent left shoulder surgery recently after an injury at Racing de Ferrol, will face a roughly three-month hiatus. Berchiche, balancing specific exercises and well-earned vacations in Ibiza, aims to join Ernesto Valverde's squad for summer preparations.

"Rest and treatment have been crucial. We’re looking forward to seeing the boys ready for a strong season start," said an insider from Athletic's coaching staff.

These recoveries are crucial as Athletic Bilbao approaches the new season with renewed hopes, focusing on maintaining peak physical condition and avoiding further setbacks.
